Botox vs fillers

What’s Bothering You?

Take a look in the mirror. Make a few expressions. Then relax your face.

See wrinkles when you smile, frown, or raise your eyebrows? That’s Botox territory.

See deep lines, hollow cheeks, or thin lips even when your face is still? That’s filler territory.

See both? You need a combination.

Botox: The Wrinkle Smoothie

A refined protein that temporarily relaxes some facial muscles.

How it works:

When you frown or squint, those muscles tighten, causing lines to form on your skin. Botox signals those muscles to rest. The skin above flattens out.

What it treats:

  • Forehead lines are horizontal lines that appear when you lift your brows.
  • Frown lines (“11s” between the brows)
  • Crow’s feet are lines that appear around your eyes when you grin.
  • Bunny lines (wrinkles on the nose)
  • Lip flip (subtle upper lip augmentation).
  • When you’ll notice results: 3-7 days, full impact after two weeks.

Fillers – The Volume Restorer

Fillers are Gel-like substances (often hyaluronic acid) injected to increase volume and fill gaps.

How they work:

As we age, we lose collagen, fat, and bone structure. Your face deflates. Fillers replenish lost volume, raising and smoothing from inside.

What they are treating:

  • Nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the mouth).
  • Marionette lines (lines from the mouth corners down to the chin)
  • Cheek volume loss (flat or hollow under the eyes)
  • Thin lips.
  • Undefined jawline.
  • Chin Recession
  • Tear troughs (under eye hollows)

Botox vs. fillers:

Which One Is Right for You?

Choose Botox if:

  • Your wrinkles appear when you make expressions
  • You want to prevent deeper lines from forming
  • You’re in your 20s or 30s looking for preventative treatment
  • You want a quick, no-downtime refresh

Choose Fillers if:

  • You’ve lost volume in your cheeks, lips, or under your eyes
  • You have deep lines that are present even when your face is relaxed
  • You want to define your jawline or chin
  • You’re in your 40s or older

Choose Both if:

  • You have dynamic wrinkles AND volume loss (most people over 40)
  • You want complete facial rejuvenation
  • You want to look refreshed, not “done.”

The Truth About Riyadh Patients

Most individuals in Riyadh begin Botox treatment in their late twenties or early thirties for preventative. By their late thirties and forties, they have added fillers to compensate for volume loss.

  • Age 25-35: Botox only (forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet).
  • Age 35-45: Botox + lip filler + perhaps cheeks
  • Age 45-55: Botox + complete face filler (cheeks, nasolabial folds, jawline, lips).
  • Age 55+: Combination with skin boosters and potentially lasers to improve texture.

But everyone is different. Your 40-year-old pal may require more filler than you. Your 30-year-old sister may already be experiencing volume decrease because to her genetics.

Cost of Botox and filler in Riyadh:

Botox: SAR 800 – 2,500 per area. Most people need 1-3 areas.

Fillers: SAR 1,200 – 2,500 per syringe. Most people need 1-3 syringes, depending on the area.

The Bottom Line

Botox and fillers aren’t competitors – they’re teammates. Botox stops the muscle movement that creates lines. Fillers fill the spaces that time has emptied.

Most of my patients in Riyadh end up doing both. Not necessarily in the same appointment, but over time, as they see what each treatment can do.

FAQs

Both are mild. Fillers might sting a bit more, but numbing cream is used. Botox feels like tiny pinches.

You can get them together. If you're doing them separately, there's no required waiting period.

Not with an experienced injector. Botox should leave you with natural movement – just without deep lines. Fillers should look like you, just fuller and rested.
